Time-based Narrative

This page follows the development in Time-based Narrative from my second year of Abertay, beginning from the bottom of the page.

Here the final submission video. It actually is 16:9 but because I had to re-render it to be able to upload it, the ratio changed even though I had it set to 16:9. I tried several times to change that, but it wouldn't work.

DVD Menu

This is my menu design for the DVD. "Pretty Fly" is the play button as well as the name of my imaginary film. Because I used pngs in the DVD project I couldn't make them highlight when you hover over them, the way normal menu buttons would. You kind of have to go by feeling :/ sucks but at least they work. Also the video starts when you put the DVD in instead of going to the menu first. When it finishes it goes to the menu, though. Which is ok.

Posters and Credits

I used posters that were hanging around Abertay, so that they are recognisable as posters and not random pieces of paper. I don't claim any artistic rights on those posters. I only changed their text to make them credits for my title sequence. I then filmed these posters on a green screen, so that I can use them ion addition to the street footage.
I included the producer and writer of the original "Pretty fly for a white guy" song in my credits, because I thought it'd be quite boring if my name was put up for all the departments. Also, why not give those guys some credit since I used their song for a cover version.

Inspiration for drawn scenes

These are some images I took as well as research for the 60s style drawings. They are street scenes from 60s New York and London and a Taxi in Dundee. I was going to implement signs on houses and maybe cars along the path to give this sort of old style feeling for when my character is walking down the street. This unfortunately didn't work out, because if software issues and time pressure.

I also tried drawing over a photo, imitating the first scene of my video. Instead of my character being dressed in a suit I drew it on. This was my vision for the drawn scenes.

Location shots

Before I started filming, I went around the locations I wanted to film and took pictures, simulating my storyboard. I did this, to make sure that I could accomplish my vision and I wouldn't waste time filming when something wouldn't work the way I had planned it to.

Development Sketchbook

Here are scans of my development sketchbook. The newest progress is at the top.
