I am experimenting with the TerrainEdit tool in UDK to build the beach terrain for my scene. I have used UDK's own materials to test and play with the terrain options. I have also "painted" my palm tree onto the terrain as a static mesh. It is really easy to create a forest this way.
I have yet to create:
- terrain textures, probably 2 or 3
- a sky dome
- some furniture for the house
- find out how to add water for the sea
- triggers to open the door and have fact sheets about surfing pop-up.
