Advanced Visualisation - (13) Storyboard
Instead of having two other characters in the scene that I would have to animate, saying goodbye, I went by "the moving train" and indicated an action that has already begun, the audience has just entered into. It is still clear that Cupid is leaving someone behind, saying goodbye and moving onto something else. Who those other characters are is irrelevant for the 30sec animated sequence. The background story expands on the previous action and the onwards development of the story, which means the animation sequence doesn't have to have all the information in it, otherwise it would overload it.
The emotions Cupid expresses throughout the scene are in connection to his difficulty with the situation. It is a character driven story where Cupid the cup, with his stubby feet and bulky figure, is trying to get off the elevated tea tray onto the ground below to begin his journey. At first he inspects the drop. His first emotion is contemplating confusion as he scratches his belly, while trying to think of the next step. He tries to step off but his feet are too short. His second reaction to the situation is a frustrated frown in conjunction with an impatient tapping of his foot. He decides to get off backwards, because he will be able to stretch further that way. He turns around and starts walking backwards, closer to the drop, looking back in slight worry as he does so. He leans back and stretches his foot looking backwards frequently in worry, trying not to fall off. Eventually he looses balance and falls backwards, with an expression of shock, similar to wide eyes if he had them, before he lands with his back on the ground. He tries to get up a few times but fails. Finally he turns to his side and pushes himself up with one arm.
